 Role of the Championship Secretary
To oversee all your helpers and be responsible for all the following duties.
To be aware of all the swimmers ages, especially as so many different dates of birth now apply to galas.
LEAGUES
- Speedo League
- Kent Junior League
- Whitehorse League
Liaise with coaches regarding the teams. Ensure that the coaches know (well in advance) when the league matches are and that teams are selected in good time. Remind coaches of certain swimmers if you feel that anyone has been overlooked.
Organise a coach if the venue is over an hours drive away. (We usually use Clarke’s’ and charge £6 per seat) Allow plenty of time. Type out letters to selected swimmers and give to either Squad Reps or Coaches to distribute to the swimmers.
Arrange for Timekeepers, Judges and Team Managers to be on poolside and that a list of results with the correct team sheet is brought back to the club and given to Coaches. Also include any photographs taken for the press.
CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Kent County Championships
- London Region Championship
- National Age Group Championship
- National Youth Championship
The London Region and National Championships are treated the same and especially regarding times and press coverage. Also, it may well be necessary to find suitable hotels for swimmers, parents and coaches at Nationals (and some away galas). It is always very good bonding for the club swimmers to stay together in hotels.
The Championship Secretary is sometimes involved in Schools, and Borough galas and also Training Camps.
