Jack Petchey Achievement Awards

In July 2007, Beckenham Swimming Club was accepted as a beneficiary of the Jack Petchey Foundation Award Scheme.

Jack Petchey OBE is a self made successful businessman and one of the foremost sponsors of young people (usually 11-25) in the UK. Since the Foundation was formed in 1999 he has donated over £35 million to the cause.

Beckenham Swimming Club are part of the Gold Scheme, which is for clubs with over 100 active members. Each month an Achievement Certificate is awarded to a young person within the Club together with a small presentation cheque for £300 made payable to the Club. A decision is then made, in consultation with the winner, as how best to spend the money to benefit the Club.

Once a year the whole Club partakes in a ballot for the Leader's Award where a cheque for £1,000 is presented to the winner in recognition of the qualities that the leader has brought to the Club. Again the money is spent on the club after consultation between the leader and the other Club members.

An annual presentation of medals takes place where all recipients to date receive a boxed medal from a representative of the Foundation, or by a suitable VIP. The Leaders medal and cheque for £1,000 is also presented.

We have also just been awarded a Jack Petchey grant of just under £5,000 toward a Training Camp for 26 of our Top Swimmers in October, for which we thank the Foundation.

We were very fortunate that Kay Grimshaw kindly agreed to make the presentations to our winners. Kay is currently President of The London Region, Vice President of the ASA and who takes over the Presidency of the ASA in October 2008, which is an enormous honour. Kay has been associated with Beckenham Swimming Club for many years during the time that her son was swimming for us, and was a super efficient, tireless worker for us. Since leaving us she has worked endlessly in swimming as an official in the County and the Region. Kay is also still a Vice President of Beckenham Swimming Club and we were delighted to welcome her to our Presentation Ceremony which was held at on Wednesday 11th June 2008 prior to the AGM meeting at the Public Halls, Beckenham.

You can download and print off a copy of the Jack Petchy Nomination Form.

Note Award Winners must be aged between 11-25, and each person can only receive the award once.
