Role of The Membership Secretary
This is the first point of contact for swimmers wishing to join the club. Anyone who hears of a swimmer wishing to join Beckenham Swimming Club should inform them to contact the Membership Secretary.
The membership secretary then takes down details of the prospective swimmer and liaises with the coaches to organise a Trial. This is usually through a ‘Trial night’ or may be an individual trial if the swimmer is already a member of another club.
Trial Nights
The Membership secretary organises these after liaising with the coaches (usually Di). The pool needs to be booked, normally The Spa at 7pm on a Saturday night, and the swimmers informed.
A membership pack is collated and given to all new members that are offered a place in the Club by the Coach running the Trial. The membership secretary makes sure all new swimmers return the relevant forms to the appropriate people in the club as soon as possible.
Swimmers that are not successful are told of the coach’s decision by the Membership secretary. If a swimmer wishes to appeal this decision, the Membership secretary should inform the Management committee.
Annual Membership renewals
Every year a renewal pack is provided for all members to fill in and return to the Membership secretary should they wish to continue their club membership.
The membership secretary has to liaise closely with the Treasurer and the ASA registration officer so that they can make sure that the correct fees are paid and registration forms are sent to the ASA as soon as possible.
The membership secretary needs to liaise closely with the coaches and Training secretary to know where there are spaces in the club which can be filled.
