Michael Gunning’s swimming profile

August 2011

PERSONAL DATA

Michael Gunning is currently an International Junior Swimmer that trains 20 hours per week with Beckenham Swimming Club. Michael’s best events are the 200m Butterfly and the 1500m Freestyle, and last year in early June he was selected to represent ‘Team GB’ in the European LEN CUP in Rome where he returned to swim in the International Great London Swim Elite Race, where he came 7th after swimming against Germany’s 9 Time World Champion Thomas Lurz, and Great Britain’s Olympic Medalist David Davies.

IN THE POOL

Greatest achievement to date: The Great Swim Series are really good fun to swim in because it gives me a chance to race some of the big names in the World and compare myself to them, but I would say my best achievement is swimming would be when I swam for for GBR in the Open Water Cup at the European Juniors in 2010.

Aspiration: Making the European Junior Team for the pool event, getting to an Olympic Games, and hopefully bringing home the gold medal!

Who has been greatest influence on you: My parents and family have been there all the way with me and I really couldn’t have got here with out them! My coaches have helped me a great deal and brought me through my younger years to make me reach my full potential and all of my friends that have supported me day in and day out.

OUT OF THE POOL

Your most prized possession: WOW! I have got so many things, erm well my set of Harry Potter Books will sit in the VIP section in my Book Shelf forever so I would say that they are ONE of my prized possessions. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was the first book I ever read and I would encourage everyone to read them because they are amazing!!!!

Tip for the top: Have fun, Train hard, and Never Give Up! Dreams do really come true!

Life after swimming: For me, swimming will always be my life so I will keep in the swimming world but I would like to take my drama to the next level and be in an International Movie!
